Upcoming classes

I've added a section on my upcoming classes at the John C Campbell Folk School. Although the name of the class I teach there remains the same, I assure you I have never taught the same class twice! If I know how to do it and you are interested in learning how to do it, I'll teach you! We are limited only by the length of the class and the equipment we have available to us. I've included a couple of photos of items produced by beginning students in past classes.

Screen Melt Slide show

For the last several months, I've been mesmerized by a process known as "screen melting" and have been doing almost nothing else. (I tend to get in ruts!) In this process, I actually make the glass the piece is created from. The process involves placing strips of glass on hardware cloth which is "sewed" onto a stainless steel rack with stainless steel wire. The kiln is taken up to 1650 degrees where the glass liquifies and falls through the grid of the hardware cloth making incredible patterns. I've included some close-up detail shots on some of the pieces so you can see these patterns. Once the glass has annealed, it can then be slumped or draped to form the piece.

Why this blog??

At the John C Campbell Folk School, where I teach kiln-formed glass classes, I've met wonderful people --either taking a class from me, or people I'm taking classes from. I'm starting this blog in order to try to stay connected to these people and to let you know what I'm currently working on.

Please let me hear from you, particularly if you are still pursuing working with glass!!
